Breaking Down the Voice for Actors

Come gain an understanding of how the voice works and where it comes from, including preparing the voice for normal phonation, engaging the diaphragm, adjusting speech organs, and using the voice as a dynamic and expressive tool.

Financial Guidance for Actors with The Engagement Appeal
Wednesday 28th February 2024, 6-7pm

Start the new year with some financial guidance from The Engagement Appeal, who aim to work with artists in order to bring them confidence in investing, saving, and responsible spending. 

The Irish Accent
Tuesday 12th March 2024, 6-8pm

Learn how to master the Irish accent with this online workshop that provides actors with the necessary tools for proficient Irish accent work.

Creating and Developing Characters
Tuesday 19th March 2024, 6-8pm

In this seminar, hear how to create characters from nothing, feel more confident in auditions and develop characters to be both believable and entertaining. You’ll be guided through multiple ways to create and develop a character in this 2-hour session.

The Wellbeing Series (18yrs +) 

Our well-being programme is designed to empower and support you to navigate the mental challenges of the acting profession and the uncertain times that we’re living through. These events are currently all online and run via Zoom.

Lay Imposter Syndrome to Rest
Tuesday 5th March 2024, 6 -7:30pm

Join us for a fantastical funeral for self-doubt, and get to the root of what’s holding you back from pursuing the work you dream of. The first part of this workshop will introduce you to psychological theory surrounding mental fixation and self-perpetuating biases, and then we’ll have a wander through the Growing Graveyard, deciding what behaviours—momentary and systemic—we’d like to leave behind, before brainstorming more sustainable replacement behaviours to lay in their place.

Spotlight Boost (18yrs +) – Paid Events

As an extension of our popular free Open House events, this series of workshops are open to both Spotlight and non-Spotlight performers, with Spotlight members getting the option to book prior to public release. Sessions will be ticketed, available at weekends and are aimed at educating and training performers in all aspects of the ever-growing industry. These workshops are being offered in addition to our usual Open House events for members which are included free of charge as a membership benefit. Held in partnership with our Accessible Venue Partner Old Diorama.

Expert Hour with Mercy Ojelade: Drama School Advice for Young Performers

For many performers, entry into the profession is through specialist vocational training at a drama school or studying at university level institutions. In this session, actor Mercy Ojelade discusses how to research the drama schools and the audition entry process, with an opportunity to ask questions about where to start when looking, and what to look for.
